Why You Don't Need Dairy - Juliet Gellatley.

Is it natural to consume milk after weaning? Indeed, is it safe to consume cow's milk at all? She looks at many health issues and new research showing why dairy is linked to cancers; how natural growth hormones in milk affect us and what are the dangers of milk protein and saturated fats? She exposes the way that major studies have revealed that dairy causes heart disease, diabetes and obesity. Importantly, she also examines the calcium myth. Do we - and especially our children - need milk for calcium? If not, where should we obtain it and how do we ensure our kids have strong bones?

Juliet Gellatley

In 1994 Juliet founded Viva! - a vibrant, campaigning group that is the biggest vegetarian and vegan organisation in Europe. Viva! organises The Incredible Veggie Shows. She also set up the charity, the Vegetarian and Vegan Foundation in 2002 to concentrate on health and nutrition. She directs both groups.

Over the past 20 years, Juliet has created and launched numerous campaigns and written several reports, guides and books, including the Silent Ark, Born to be Wild and the Livewire Guide to Going, Being & Staying Veggie. She has filmed and exposed many factory farms, severely embarrassing companies such as Bernard Matthews. Juliet is an inspirational, fun and informative speaker and has made media appearances across the world. She has a degree in zoology and psychology; a diploma in direct marketing and is a qualified nutritional therapist.

Vegan Society Education

VS Education runs an education outreach project. They provide teaching resources and visiting speakers to help young people explore how the food they eat is connected to some of the most pressing issues of our time. Find out how they work with education establishments, cast your eye over some of their materials and see how you can get involved. Getting the service well used by schools is the next step so please bring along all your ideas for effective promotions! http://www.vegansociety.com/vseducation/

Rob Jackson

Rob's been vegan for over ten years and for the last three has been working with the Vegan Society as Education Officer. Before that he worked on a vegan-organic farm for a couple of seasons, which he hopes to get back to one of these days. As Education Officer he's responsible for vegan outreach to schools and other education establishments.

Justin Kerswell

Justin is the campaigns manager at Viva!, Europe's largest campaigning vegetarian and vegan group - which is based here in Bristol. Viva! exists to help people change to a kinder, healthier animal-free diet, because they believe that it is the best way to end the suffering of animals and improve the world around us. Justin will talk about how badgers have been unfairly scapegoated by farmers and politicians for the bovine TB epidemic. How this is wrong, and how bad farming and political smokescreens are really to blame. Justin will also suggest practical ways to stop this injustice and show people the real reasons behind the massacre of wildlife.
